Desert Dangers and Reminders

The allure of great hiking and wide open trails draw people to the southwestern U.S. from all over the world.  Some newcomers may not be aware of the dangers that lurk in the beautiful desert. Below is a quick reminder list of what to be aware of!

Bees

Be aware of the low hmmmmmm that may come from a hive of these fellows that may be nearby.

Scorpions

This iconic desert pest can be crawling anywhere on the floor to reach crevices.  Be careful of their stinger can be very painful and cause neurological issues especially for small children

Snakes

Rattlesnakes are very common in our desert mountains. If you come across a snake, keep a safe distance away since snakes and strike up to three times their body length.

Heat

No matter how many times you hear it, the heat can sneak up on you before you know it. With average afternoon humidity level less than 25% the air in Phoenix is DRY! Always carry extra water in your car or on your person especially when hiking. The stay hydrated it is important to take in water well before your outdoor activity.
